Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Thursday the memory of Iran’s martyrs will give “hope, ambition and courage” to future generations and inspire them to take “firm steps toward lofty goals”.
In a message released on the occasion of the Sacred Defense Week and the day of commemorating martyrs and war veterans, Ayatollah Khamenei described Iran’s martyrs as a “historical reserve”.
“This historical reserve will always give our future generations hope, ambition and courage to take strong, firm steps toward lofty goals,” the Leader read.
He said the Iranian nation will never forget “the honorable memory of the dear martyrs”.
Iran is observing the Sacred Defense Week on the 40th anniversary of Iraq’s war on the Islamic Republic.
The annual event honors those who sacrificed their lives during eight years of resistance against the invading forces loyal to dictator Saddam Hussein in the 1980s.
“The memory of the Iranian nation… will always be decorated with the title of martyrdom and the memory of the martyrs,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The Leader noted that the “alliance of justice and truth” will gain “major victories” in the face of “the slinking devils of the world”.
