The upcoming World Wrestling Championships will go ahead as planned in December, despite uncertainty surrounding the global sports caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the United World Wrestling (UWW) vice president Mikhail Mamiashvili said.
The senior world championships is scheduled to take place in Belgrade, capital of Serbia, on December 12-20.
Speaking to Russian news agency TASS, the Russian Wrestling Federation president added that the U23 World Championships, which were to be held in Tampere, Finland, in late November, will likely be canceled out.
The former Olympics gold medalist made the remarks following a UWW Executive Committee online meeting on Monday.
The world wrestling governing body, however, is yet to approve the committee’s decisions.
