Sound bomb injures four police officers in southeast Iran

The explosion of a sound bomb injured four police officers in a city in southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said in a statement on Wednesday.

The explosion happened on Wednesday near a police car in Zibashahr district of Zahedan city, the capital city of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, the IRGC statement said, according to IRNA.

Head of medical emergency center of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences Fariborz Rashedi said that the four injured police officers suffered minor injuries and were discharged from hospital after receiving medical service.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bomb attack so far.

Foreign-backed terrorist groups have targeted Iranian security forces in the province several times in recent years.

Last February, a terrorist attack in the province killed 27 IRGC forces.

The IRGC personnel were traveling between the cities of Zahedan and Khash in Sistan and Baluchestan Province on February 13, when their bus was targeted in a suicide car bomb attack.

The attack, claimed by the Jaish ul-Adl terrorist group, killed 27 IRGC members and injured 13 others.

In March, Iran's Intelligence Ministry said its forces identified and dismantled a terrorist team affiliated with the Jaish ul-Adl terrorist group in the southeastern province.

The leader of the terrorist team, Elias Narouee, was killed in the operation.

The slain terrorist played a key role in numerous terrorist operations, including commanding the attack on the IRGC base in the city of Nikshahr, which killed two IRGC forces; participating in the killing of 27 IRGC personnel in the February attack; and planting a sound bomb in front of the Zahedan police station.
